DOES EDUCATIONAL INSPECTION NECESSITATES EXPERTISE?
Abstract
Educational Inspection is a scientific area having, principles, methods and, most importantly having a theoretical basis for its field. Inspectors must have the scientific background to have the expertise to supervise the field. The aim of the study in this context is to determine whether the audit activities carried out in educational institutions require expertise. As a qualitative research method, case study design and purposeful sampling method were used in the research. The data of the study were obtained with 3 semi-structured questionnaires and analysed by the content analysis. The sample of the research constitutes 30 teachers in the province of Kırklareli and the districts of Babaeski in the academic year of 2016–2017. According to teachers, educational inspection requires expertise. The expertise of the inspectors can contribute to their motivation and interest, positive communication and healthy supervision and producing high quality work outcomes by influencing education positively. Teachers indicate that they can exhibit negative attitudes and behaviors when they see that supervisors are not experts. Expertise in educational inspection is considered necessary in terms of ensuring quality and success in education. Legal and pedagogical arrangements must be made to train educators as experts in order to achieve qualification and success in education in this respect. © 2019. All Rights Reserved.
