As an approach of design in sustainable architecture, "Parasitic Architecture" presents an opportunity to the necessary spatial organization in daily life as a method to design the latest. The "Parasitic Architecture" method defined in the study is applied within the Architectural Design 1 class of Architecture Department in the 2018-2019 fall semester in Tekirdağ Namik Kemal University, Faculty of Fine Arts. Through the architectural project that covered this semester, the architect candidates were required to examine the Tekirdağ urban settings after the scope of the project was explained. Each student was required to study on three different places of the city. Upon investigating the spatial voids in the structured urban environment, we have reached spatial voids which can be structured on the urban wall. The aim was to design the silent façades and voids on the third dimension of the space the building occupies, so that they serve the function of the building it will dwell on. After determining the area the design will occupy on the urban wall, the owners of the building who will accommodate the parasitic architecture were contacted, and the architectural program of the outbuilding was made according to the users' needs. Throughout the study, the architect candidates were presented with the idea of Mutualism or symbiotic existence which defines the mutual living in biology, amensalism, and commensalism concepts as well as the nature originated textures that are used in art. The aim of the study and the design covers both the urban location the new design will occupy and environment relationship, and simplification of human life as well as reaching aesthetic maturity. Schools of architecture and art were introduced in the class for aesthetic maturity as the key terms of the study. Parasitic Architecture approach was elaborated on. Promoting the depth of knowledge the architecture candidate has for the new design, the study provides for the acquired knowledge to support the design of the candidates within the context of sustainability. The result of the study highlights the design abilities which the architect candidate obtained. © Peter Lang AG 2020.en_US
